Spring Hill Spotlight

Spring Hill, TN Community

This past Saturday, May 31, 2025, Franklin witnessed a truly enchanting moment as the Carousel of Dreams officially opened its doors to the public at The Factory. From the very first spin, it was clear this is no ordinary carousel — it’s a celebration of artistry, community spirit, and heartfelt giving. The air was filled with laughter, and the colorful, hand-carved animals came to life. Families gathered to create memories that would last a lifetime.

The grand opening festivities, held from 1:00 to 4:00 PM, offered more than just rides. Guests were treated to face painting, balloon artists, and visits from beloved princesses and superheroes, all amidst a backdrop of interactive booths representing the nonprofit organizations supported by the Carousel’s proceeds. The event was a perfect blend of joy, imagination, and generosity — a true reflection of what the Carousel of Dreams represents for Franklin and beyond.

Hand-Carved Dreams Come to Life

At the heart of the Carousel of Dreams is the masterful craftsmanship of Ken Means, a renowned carver, painter, and mechanical engineer. Since carving his first wooden rocking horse in 1979, Ken has dedicated himself to perfecting the art of creating carousel figures over the decades. Each of the 36 animal figures on this carousel — from majestic horses to mythical dragons — is meticulously hand-carved by Ken himself, making every ride a unique experience.

What makes this carousel even more special is its deep connection to the Franklin community. Ken Means relocated to Franklin in 2019 and found a home for his artistry inside The Factory. This space not only serves as his workshop but now proudly houses the completed carousel, a testament to the fusion of local talent and community support. The animals’ intricate details and vibrant colors invite riders to dream and imagine, capturing the timeless magic of carousel rides.

A Carousel With a Cause

The Carousel of Dreams is more than just a beautiful attraction. It’s a beacon of philanthropy. Operated by The Circle of Giving, a nonprofit launched by Factory developer Holladay Properties, the carousel’s proceeds directly benefit local charitable organizations. This innovative model ensures that every ticket purchased helps fuel positive change in the community.

Allen Arender, Chief Development Officer at Holladay Properties, emphasized that the carousel is envisioned as the cornerstone of a new Factory nonprofit foundation. By sponsoring carousel animals or simply enjoying a ride, visitors contribute to a cycle of generosity that uplifts Franklin’s nonprofits. This connection between artistry and altruism turns the carousel into a living symbol of hope and community care.

The Grand Opening Celebration

The grand opening event on Saturday, May 31, 2025, was a joyful celebration that brought together families, artists, and community members. The carousel opened to the public early at 10:00 AM, allowing eager visitors to enjoy rides before the official festivities began at 1:00 PM. The afternoon was filled with interactive booths from the 2025 nonprofit beneficiaries, face painting, balloon art, and appearances by favorite princesses and superheroes, creating a truly magical atmosphere.

The event was thoughtfully designed to be family-friendly, with special accommodations such as wheelchair-accessible chariots and a shuttle service provided by the Franklin Transit Authority, ensuring everyone could join in the fun.
